Description

Iocane Games is an independent game development studio based in Issaquah, WA. We love making strategy and simulation games for the PC. The three founders have been in the game industry for many years, and are making our latest attempt at running our own studio.

History

Previous Projects

We've worked on a number of previously shipped titles, including Railroad Tycoon, Tropico, Age of Wonders, Total Annihilation, The Matrix Online, The Sims Online, Super Hero Squad Online, Avengers Alliance and many other titles.

Beetle Uprising

Iocane Games' first shipped title, Beetle Uprising was inspired by the market need for more strategy games. We wanted something small that we could fund ourselves and required a limited art budget. So we made use of Franz's Photoshop skills, and David's shader skills to make something that looks very pretty. We wanted to create something that hasn't been explored too much in the industry, and solve some difficult technical and design problems that show off our skills. The three founders have spent about 6 months full time on development and a lot of long days and weekends getting to this point. We think it came together very well, and believe our depth of experience really accelerated things.

The real depth in the game is the simulation and genetics system that drives not only how your Beetle looks, but also how it performs. We also dug into the challenges of supporting large numbers of units in combat, which creates a lot of tension and excitement. We have released the game to Early Access on Steam, as we complete the list of content we have planned, and watch how the community responds. So far, we've seen a number of reviewers having a lot of fun.
